World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic crash on the Lagos–Ibadan expressway at Makun, Ogun State, on Monday, sources said.
Eyewitnesses and first responders at the scene told reporters the vehicle conveying the boxer collided with another car under circumstances that remain unclear.
Two persons were confirmed dead at the scene, while Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries and received immediate attention from rescuers.
A witness who took part in the rescue operation told newsmen that emergency teams worked quickly to evacuate the injured. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
Traffic officials and local police have cordoned off the crash site as investigations into the cause of the collision continue.
Officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency were said to be on the scene.
