The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress Ajibola Basiru has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike to resign his appointment and devote his attention to what he described as an unhealthy fixation with politics in Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Monday Basiru maintained that members of the party national leadership must show respect for sitting governors and recognise them as the political heads of the party in their respective states.
He stressed that the position of state governors within the party structure should not be undermined by any individual regardless of status or office.
The APC scribe was reacting to earlier comments credited to Wike in which the minister reportedly advised him to steer clear of Rivers State political affairs.
Basiru said party discipline and internal order must be upheld if the APC is to remain stable and united, warning against actions that could deepen divisions within the party.
The exchange highlights the growing tension around the control and direction of the ruling party in Rivers State, as senior figures trade words over influence and authority within the party.
