Two men have been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly attempting to murder a woman during a violent assault in Akure.
Spokesperson for the Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest yesterday, saying the suspects were apprehended after a distress call was placed by a resident of Oke-Ijebu, identified simply as Fasuru.
He said operatives attached to the Ijapo Division stormed the scene and found the suspects brutalising the victim, who was already unconscious by the time officers arrived.
Jimoh disclosed that the woman was immediately rushed to a medical facility where she is receiving care.
The suspects, identified as Sodiq and Emmanuel, have been detained and transferred to the Command’s Monitoring Unit for further interrogation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal reiterated the Command’s determination to rid the state of violent attacks and assured residents of prompt police response anytime crime is reported.
He warned against acts that threaten public safety and encouraged residents to provide useful information that can aid crime prevention.
The Command also commended Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for ongoing reforms and the deployment of technology expected to strengthen law enforcement in the state.
Residents were urged to remain peaceful and contact the police through 0906 058 8958 or designated social media channels when emergencies arise.
