I’m not for sale, Kwankwaso tells supporters after Yusuf’s reported NNPP exit

The leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has declared that he would not abandon his political convictions for personal benefits.

Kwankwaso spoke in Kano on Friday while addressing supporters at his residence, shortly after reports emerged that Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, alongside some local government chairmen, members of the House of Representatives and aides, had resigned from the NNPP.

In his remarks, the former governor insisted that his political journey had been driven by a desire to uplift ordinary Nigerians, stressing that he remained committed to the ideals that birthed the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

“I’m not for sale. Our political convictions keep me grounded. If I were in it for personal gain, I would have taken the easy route and you would be looking for me elsewhere, not in this place,” he said.

Kwankwaso added that the movement had survived over the years because of shared values and sacrifices, not material rewards.

“Our shared vision is what keeps me going. If I were motivated by greed, I would have taken the money and run, and you would not be here showing your support,” he added.

He also charged his supporters to begin early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning them not to be discouraged by recent political developments in the state.

“We need people like you who have sacrificed and stood by the truth. You should not relent, because one day, we will achieve our objectives,” he said.

The NNPP chieftain said the situation in Kano required urgent preparations, claiming that some forces were determined to undo what the movement had built over time.

“Going by what is happening in Kano today, we need to start preparing because there are people hell-bent on destroying what we built over time,” he stated.

Kwankwaso further assured supporters of his resolve to continue defending the interests of the masses.

“My mission is to always fight for the ordinary people. I will not compromise with those who exploit the masses,” he said.
