The Kano State Fire Service has recovered the body of a three-year-old boy, Abdura’uf Badamasi, who was earlier reported missing in Wangara Village, Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Director of the service, Alhaji Sani Anas, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the service received a distress call at about 7:50 a.m. on Friday from a resident, Dan Asabe Rabiu, reporting the disappearance of the toddler.
Anas said a rescue team from the headquarters was immediately dispatched to the area.
On arrival, it was gathered that the child had been missing since Thursday evening, with his parents suspecting that he might have fallen into a well within the community.
Firefighters were said to have promptly entered the well and retrieved the child. He was, however, confirmed dead after being brought out.
The remains were subsequently handed over to the ward head of Wangara Village for burial rites.
The fire service expressed sympathy with the bereaved family and cautioned residents to ensure that open wells are properly covered and other dangerous areas secured to prevent similar incidents, especially involving children.
