Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority have rescued a truck driver who was trapped inside the cabin of an overturned containerised truck along the Shagamu Road axis of Oke Gbegun, near the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu.

The incident, which occurred around midnight, was confirmed in a statement issued by the agency on Sunday.

According to LASTMA, the 40-foot containerised truck, fully loaded at the time of the crash, reportedly suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before the vehicle overturned on the busy roadway.

The authority said its officials arrived at the scene to find the driver still trapped inside the tractor head, describing the rescue operation as risky due to the weight of the container and the position of the fallen truck.

A statement by the agency noted that operatives worked swiftly to stabilise the vehicle and carefully extricate the driver, ensuring his safety and that of other road users.
LASTMA added that its Rescue and Recovery Team immediately deployed the Super Metro 002 high-capacity recovery truck to support the operation and clear the obstruction.

The accident, it said, led to heavy traffic congestion in the area, as the overturned truck partially blocked the road.

Motorists were diverted to alternative routes to ease vehicular movement while officers coordinated traffic control to minimise disruption.

As of the time of filing this report, recovery efforts were ongoing, with further updates expected from the authority.
