Suspected bandits have reportedly killed a labour activist, Comrade Magaji Auwal Abdulhameed, during an attack along the Birnin Gwari highway in Kaduna State.

The incident occurred along the Birnin Gwari axis in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area while the victim was said to be returning home.

Details of the killing emerged on Tuesday through a post by a security analyst and journalist, popularly known as Bakatsine, on X formerly Twitter.

His post on X reads, “BREAKING: Comr. Magaji Auwal Abdulhameed was killed by suspected bandits while returning home along the Birnin Gwari axis in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

“The attack adds to the growing number of security incidents targeting travelers on the route, despite repeated concerns over safety in the area.

“How many more lives must be lost before effective security is guaranteed on Nigeria’s highways?

According to the post, Abdulhameed was attacked and killed by armed men believed to be bandits, describing the incident as a stark reminder of the persistent insecurity along the route.

Bakatsine noted that the Birnin Gwari corridor has continued to witness attacks on motorists and travellers, despite repeated calls for enhanced security presence in the area.

He added that the latest incident further underscores concerns over the safety of commuters using the highway.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain official confirmation from security agencies were unsuccessful.
