Tragedy struck on Saturday morning in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area, as a member of the Hunters Vigilante group allegedly shot dead his colleague following a disagreement while on patrol.

The victim, identified as Jafar Umar, was reportedly gunned down by a fellow operative of the community-based security outfit during what sources described as a minor dispute.

Both men were said to be serving under the Hunters Vigilante, a local security group operating across parts of Plateau State.

Confirming awareness of the incident, the Jos South Area Commander of the Nigerian Forest Security Service, Pam Gyang Pwajok, said he had received preliminary information about the development but was yet to obtain full details.

“I heard something like that happened in Vom, but I don’t have full details yet,” he said during a telephone conversation with journalists. “I have directed my men to investigate and submit a report. I am still awaiting the outcome of that investigation.”

Security sources disclosed that the suspect turned himself in to the police shortly after the shooting.

An investigation is said to be underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Attempts to get a reaction from the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as of the time this report was filed.
