The Borno State Police Command has announced the death of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Abubakar A. Balteh, following a road accident.

In a brief statement issued on Saturday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, said the senior officer lost his life in a fatal vehicle crash on February 21, 2026.

According to the statement, Balteh served the command diligently as the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, until his untimely demise.

Daso added that further details concerning funeral arrangements and other related matters would be communicated in due course.

He prayed for the repose of the deceased officer’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.

The command had in November 2025 also announced the death of its Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Ahmed Ibn Umar, who passed away after a prolonged illness.
