A 43-year-old man, Lateef Suleiman, has been arrested for allegedly killing his elder brother, Mustapha Amidu, 52, in Sepeteri, Oyo State, after accusing him of shooting him in a dream.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, describing it as tragic.

According to the statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the matter was reported at the Ago-Amodu Divisional Police Headquarters in Sepeteri by one Badmus Yunisa of Alegunlode Compound.

The police said the suspect allegedly confronted his brother over a claim that the deceased had shot him while he was asleep the previous night.

Acting on the accusation, Suleiman was said to have approached Amidu where he was seated, picked up a heavy stone and struck him on the head before fleeing the scene.

The victim was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital, Sepeteri, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

The statement added that operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ago-Amodu Division visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations.

The command disclosed that the suspect had been apprehended and had reportedly confessed to the crime, adding that he was cooperating with investigators.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation.

The police assured residents that justice would be pursued in line with the law.

It urged members of the public to make use of the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free line 615 or contact the Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413 in case of emergencies.
