The Governor of Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has removed the state Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, from office with immediate effect.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Tofa.

According to the statement, the move is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to reform and strengthen the state civil service to enhance efficiency, discipline and service delivery across government institutions.

The statement noted that the action formed part of broader measures aimed at repositioning the civil service to better meet the needs of the state.

Governor Yusuf also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service for his commitment and contributions to the development of the state during his time in office.

The statement added that the governor wished Musa success in his future endeavours.

Meanwhile, the governor has directed the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, to assume the role in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Head of Service.

He also instructed Musa to hand over the affairs of the office to the acting Head of Service no later than Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

The development comes amid recent political shifts in Kano following Governor Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The political realignment has triggered adjustments within the state’s political and administrative structures, with several officials repositioned as the administration aligns with its new party platform while pursuing wider reforms in the civil service.
