A young man reportedly under the influence of drugs allegedly set his family house on fire following a dispute with relatives in Lagos.

A video circulating on social media early Wednesday showed family members struggling to escape as flames engulfed parts of the building.

In the footage, occupants could be heard screaming and calling for help while trying to flee the blaze.

The person who recorded the video claimed the suspect, estimated to be between 21 and 25 years old, had earlier engaged in a heated argument with family members.

The individual, described as a suspected drug user, was reportedly wearing multiple chains around his neck before allegedly igniting the fire.

According to the narrator, the suspect also vandalised property within the compound, including smashing the windscreen of a Lexus Prado parked inside. Several household items were said to have been destroyed during the incident.

The suspect’s mother was seen outside the house in distress, while other relatives gathered around the compound as the fire spread.

Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reportedly responded to the scene, working to control the blaze and prevent it from affecting neighbouring structures.

At the time of reporting, the exact location of the incident could not be independently verified.

It also remained unclear if there were any casualties or arrests, as authorities had yet to release an official statement.
