The Ondo State Government has announced strict enforcement of a ban on motorcycle operations across the state from 7:00pm to 6:00am in a renewed effort to tackle growing security concerns.
The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, made the disclosure on behalf of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa while parading over 70 suspected criminals arrested in different parts of the state.
Adeleye said the governor also directed that all commercial motorcycle operators must undergo registration with the Amotekun Corps and obtain official clearance to continue operating within the state.
He explained that riders and motorcycle owners have been given a two-week deadline to complete the process at the Amotekun headquarters or at the corps’ local government offices.
According to him, operators who fail to register within the specified period would be treated as illegal operators and may be regarded as aiding criminal elements.
The security outfit also announced a ban on the activities of cart pushers in major cities across the state, noting that the move was intended to improve safety, ease traffic flow and maintain order in urban areas.
In addition, the government has prohibited the roadside display and sale of farm produce, directing traders to restrict such activities to designated markets.
Adeleye further revealed that individuals and businesses dealing in condemned iron scraps and other metallic materials must register with the state government within two weeks.
He said the measures formed part of broader strategies adopted by the state government to strengthen security and safeguard residents and property.
The Amotekun commander added that among the suspects paraded were 18 alleged kidnappers, 11 cult suspects, one human trafficking suspect, one arrested for violating the anti-grazing law and several others linked to different criminal offences.
