Yusuf Buhari, son of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
The announcement, confirmed on Monday by Bashir Ahmad, former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to the late president, follows a period of speculation on social media about Yusuf’s political ambitions.
In a letter dated April 3, Yusuf Buhari informed stakeholders of his plan to seek the federal legislative seat representing Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter stated.
Ahmad, in a post on X, said the decision came after extensive consultations with key stakeholders in the constituency.
“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari has officially notified stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua under the APC,” he wrote.
PROMPT NEWS reports that since the end of his father’s presidency, Yusuf Buhari has maintained a relatively low public profile, making this declaration his most significant political move to date.
