The Federal Road Safety Corps has returned N1.12m recovered from the scene of a fatal road crash to the family of a deceased motorist, underscoring what it described as its commitment to transparency and accountability.
The Corps disclosed that the money was retrieved during a rescue operation following a deadly accident that occurred on April 11, 2026, at Idu Village along the Gegu–Abaji route.
The crash involved a Toyota Corolla and a Volkswagen Golf, whose driver, Mallam Aliyu Mohammed Bala, sustained critical injuries and was later confirmed dead at a hospital.
According to the agency, its Zebra Team operatives, who responded to the emergency, recovered the sum of N1,120,000 alongside other personal belongings at the scene, all of which were duly documented in line with standard procedures.
The Corps formally handed over the cash to the deceased’s family during a brief ceremony held at the Command headquarters on April 20.
The elder brother of the deceased, Bala Yakubu, received the money on behalf of the family in the presence of witnesses and senior officials.
The handover was conducted by the Acting Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander RC Ojonugwa E. Ejah, alongside other officers.
Speaking on the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the gesture reflects the agency’s ethical standards and reinforces public trust in its operations.
He also sympathised with the bereaved family, praying for the repose of the deceased and assuring the public of the Corps’ continued dedication to professionalism in the discharge of its duties.
