The Nigeria Police Force in Kwara State has intercepted a cache of live ammunition concealed in a sack of garri, in what authorities described as a major breakthrough in the fight against crime in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, disclosed this on Friday in Ilorin, revealing that the discovery was made during an intelligence-driven operation along the Ajase-Ipo Road.

According to him, operatives stopped an unregistered Toyota Previa vehicle entering Kwara from Kogi State on April 10, and a subsequent search uncovered 98 rounds of live ammunition hidden inside a bag of garri, in an apparent attempt to beat security checks.

He added that some suspects had been linked to the smuggling operation, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend others believed to be on the run.

In a series of coordinated crackdowns across the state, the police also arrested suspects connected to a shop-breaking incident in the Odota area of Ilorin, where goods valued at about N2.5 million were reportedly stolen.

Some of the stolen items were recovered, while investigations continue.

The command further recorded another arrest in the Ganmo area, where two suspects were apprehended following a distress call, leading to the recovery of a locally made firearm and a live cartridge.

In a separate operation, a 29-year-old suspect was intercepted during routine patrol along the Oroago axis, with officers recovering mobile phones, chargers, a POS machine, and other personal items suspected to be linked to criminal activity.

Similarly, the police confirmed the arrest of another suspect in Kaiama over alleged unlawful possession of human remains, noting that the case had already been charged to court.

Reaffirming the command’s resolve to tackle criminal activities, Adekimi said the police would sustain intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies to ensure public safety.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information, stressing that effective security requires collective effort.
