Suspected terrorists on Monday attacked Awon community in Kaduna State, killing two residents and abducting seven others, in what residents say signals a renewed surge of violence in Southern Kaduna.
The deceased were identified as Joseph Sule, popularly known as “Big Joe,” and Awilo Madugu.
Sources within the community disclosed that those kidnapped during the raid include Gift Victor, Hannatu Yusuf, Salina Sam, Silvia Sam, Dogarah Maisamari, Hassana Bulus and Joy Samaila.
A local source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, decried the persistent attacks in the area, urging the government to take decisive steps to halt what he described as a systematic onslaught on vulnerable communities.
He said the latest incident had heightened fear among residents, noting that repeated attacks and abductions had made daily life increasingly difficult.
“People are now living in constant fear as these attackers strike almost every day, killing and abducting without restraint,” the source said.
A community leader also appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property, stressing the need for urgent intervention.
Residents said the assault has left many traumatised, while frustration continues to mount over what they perceive as a slow and inadequate response by security operatives.
Community leaders, therefore, called for the immediate rescue of the abducted victims, improved security deployment, and proactive measures to forestall further attacks in Southern Kaduna and beyond.
