The African Democratic Congress on Saturday accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of plotting to disrupt its planned opposition summit in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the allegation in a post shared on X, claiming that the ADC had uncovered moves aimed at frustrating the gathering scheduled for April 25.
“We have uncovered plans by the ruling APC to disrupt the summit being held by the opposition parties in Ibadan,” Abdullahi stated.
He, however, insisted that the party would not be intimidated, accusing the APC of repeatedly creating obstacles for opposition activities across the country.
According to him, previous attempts by the party to hold meetings in Abuja were allegedly hindered through denial of venues at short notice.
“After denying us the use of venues in Abuja, they now will not leave us alone to hold our meetings,” he said.
Abdullahi further criticised the ruling party, suggesting that its actions contradicted claims of political confidence.
“They say they are not scared, but they are behaving like people who are terrified,” he added.
Despite the alleged pressure, the ADC spokesman maintained that the opposition summit would go ahead as planned, stressing that the party remained resolute.
“We will not be deterred, because we are on the side of the Nigerian people,” he said.
The party had earlier raised similar concerns during its convention in Abuja, where it alleged a last-minute attempt to halt the event.
