Fresh concerns have emerged over security in Kogi State following the abduction of 24 children from an orphanage home by armed men in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026.
The attackers were said to have stormed the facility in a coordinated raid before whisking the children away to an undisclosed location, leaving staff and residents in shock.
Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Government described the development as deeply disturbing and unfortunate.
The State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said security agencies had been fully mobilised to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted children.
He assured residents that the government was working closely with security operatives to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the victims.
“We condemn in strong terms the abduction of innocent children from an orphanage.
The government is working closely with security operatives to ensure their safe return,” Fanwo said.
He added that efforts were already underway to locate the attackers, stressing that the administration would not relent until the children were safely reunited with their caregivers.
The Kogi State Police Command also confirmed the incident, noting that a joint security operation had been launched.
According to the police, multiple security agencies are currently involved in the search-and-rescue mission aimed at recovering the children and apprehending those responsible for the abduction.
