The Kano State Police Command has thwarted a violent clash between suspected rival ‘Yan Daba groups in the Gyadi-Gyadi area of Kano, arresting six suspects in the process.

The command said its swift intervention restored calm and prevented further breakdown of law and order in the community.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, who said the incident occurred around 1:20pm following a distress call about an impending clash in Gyadi-Gyadi Quarters.

According to him, patrol teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they encountered hoodlums engaged in a violent confrontation.

The statement noted that an ambulance was vandalised during the unrest, while the suspects also attempted to extend the violence to other locations.

Police operatives reportedly confronted the group, but the suspects regrouped and launched an attack on officers using dangerous weapons and stones.

The command said the officers repelled the assault, forcing the hoodlums to retreat towards Farm Centre Market, where they allegedly attempted to break into shops and loot goods.

Reinforcement teams were subsequently deployed to the market, leading to the dispersal of the suspects and the arrest of six individuals.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers of the Farm Centre Division and the reinforcement teams for their professionalism and restraint.

He said their prompt response helped avert further violence and damage to property.

Bakori also warned that the command would not tolerate thuggery or any act capable of disturbing public peace in the state.

He urged parents and guardians to caution their wards against engaging in criminal activities, adding that anyone found culpable would be apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
