A Superior Court jury in Washington, D.C., has found a 42-year-old man, Jonny Gregory, guilty of killing his wife following a domestic altercation reportedly triggered by a disagreement over laundry detergent.
The conviction was announced on Monday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Department.
Authorities disclosed that the incident occurred on January 5, 2026, after an argument between the couple escalated into violence.
Gregory was arrested the following day and has remained in custody since then.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence showing that the defendant knocked his wife to the ground, repeatedly assaulted her, and pinned her down before strangling her.
Officials said the victim lost consciousness during the attack and was later taken to a hospital, where she received medical attention.
The couple’s 15-year-old daughter was said to have been present during the incident.
Reacting to the verdict, the U.S. Attorney, Jeanine Pirro, described the outcome as a reflection of the gravity of the offence.
“The verdict underscores the seriousness of the defendant’s actions.
Acts of domestic violence will be met with full accountability under the law,” she said, reaffirming the office’s commitment to prosecuting such cases.
The presiding judge, Deborah Israel, has fixed July 31, 2026, for sentencing.
