A female spa therapist, Olorunseunfunmi Awosogbon, has been hospitalised after she was allegedly attacked with a corrosive substance in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State, in what investigators suspect is linked to a soured relationship involving her employer.
Awosogbon, popularly known as Ajoke, was said to have been assigned to a client for a home massage session on October 25, 2025, at Lakowe Golf Gate, near Utmost Care Hospital, when the incident occurred.
Sources and court filings indicate that shortly after she arrived at the location in a ride-hailing vehicle, a man identified as 37-year-old Ziaulihak Zakari allegedly approached her and poured the substance suspected to be acid on her before fleeing.
Further findings revealed that the suspect was allegedly recruited by a 25-year-old man, Owolabi Daniel, following a failed romantic relationship with the spa owner, Olorunmaye Ifeoluwa.
Recounting the events, Ifeoluwa said she met Daniel earlier in 2025 when he booked a session at her spa and insisted she attend to him personally. According to her, their interaction later developed into a relationship that soon became strained.
“I later told him I needed space and made it clear the relationship could not continue, but he persisted,” she said.
She added that after ending the relationship, she began receiving threatening messages from unknown numbers, some of which allegedly contained death threats.
Ifeoluwa also disclosed that suspicious home-service bookings were made prior to the attack, with clients disappearing after her staff arrived at designated locations.
Narrating the day of the incident, she said Awosogbon contacted her in distress, reporting that a substance believed to be acid had been poured on her.
The victim was initially rushed to a hospital in Lekki before being transferred to a specialist facility in Ikeja for further treatment.
Despite the attack, Ifeoluwa alleged that threats continued, with messages warning that the incident was only the beginning.
A subsequent private investigation reportedly traced the threats to a known individual, prompting a formal complaint to the police and the arrest of suspects.
Court documents filed at a Magistrate Court in Ebute-Metta show that Zakari and Daniel are facing charges bordering on conspiracy, threat to life and causing bodily harm under the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
One of the charges alleges that the defendants conspired to commit a felony, while another accuses Daniel of sending threatening electronic messages.
A separate count states that the victim sustained injuries after being attacked with a chemical substance.
The victim, who is still undergoing medical treatment, could not be reached for comment.
Expressing concern, Ifeoluwa said she fears for her safety and that of her staff, particularly as one of the suspects has been granted bail.
Counsel to the victim, John Olobayo, faulted the charges, arguing that they do not adequately reflect the gravity of the alleged offence. He disclosed that petitions had been forwarded to relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Justice, seeking a review.
Meanwhile, the father of one of the suspects declined detailed comments, stating that all actions taken were through legal representation.
He, however, claimed to have contributed financially to the victim’s medical care.
Also contacted, the family’s lawyer, Omole Muritala, refused to comment on the matter.
