No fewer than three persons were killed on Monday night after suspected gunmen invaded Yankamaye community in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The attackers were said to have stormed the community late at night, firing gunshots indiscriminately and throwing residents into panic as many fled their homes for safety.
A member of the House of Representatives representing Ghari and Tsanyawa Federal Constituency, Sani Bala, confirmed the incident in a statement shared online on Tuesday.
The lawmaker disclosed that three bodies had been recovered following the attack, expressing concern over the worsening security situation in the area.
“As at the time of this update, three people have been confirmed dead,” Bala stated.
A resident of the community, Saifullahi Sulaiman Sorodaya, said the assailants invaded the town unexpectedly, leaving residents scrambling for safety.
“The attackers entered the town shooting without stopping, and people had no option but to run for their lives,” he said.
Another resident, Madahuru Isah Ibrahim, revealed that several persons sustained varying degrees of injuries during the assault and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, residents of Yankamaye and neighbouring communities called on security agencies to strengthen surveillance and deploy additional personnel to the area to prevent further violence.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
