Tragedy struck in the Igando area of Lagos State after a man identified simply as Golden was reportedly shot dead by yet-to-be-identified gunmen over an alleged business dispute.
The assailants, said to have arrived on a motorcycle, reportedly stormed Fatoki Street on Tuesday while searching for the victim before eventually locating and shooting him at close range.
A police source familiar with the incident disclosed on Thursday that officers who responded to a distress call found the victim lying in a pool of blood.
According to the source, the victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead before his body was deposited at the morgue.
“We received information that a man had been shot on Fatoki Street.
When officers got to the scene, the victim was found lifeless in a pool of blood.
He was taken to the hospital but was confirmed dead,” the source said.
The police source added that investigations had commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and apprehend those responsible.
Meanwhile, anti-cultism advocacy group, Confra Naija, alleged that the attack was linked to a business disagreement involving suspected internet fraud proceeds, popularly called “Yahoo money.”
The group, in a statement shared on Thursday, claimed that although the names of two cult groups surfaced in connection with the incident, preliminary findings suggested the murder was not cult-related.
It further alleged that the deceased had been sitting outside when the attackers rode into the street and shot him in the head before fleeing the area.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful as calls and text messages sent to her line were not answered as of the time of filing this report.
