Fresh crisis as Tinubu’s daughter threatens protest over APC primary results

The Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, has threatened to mobilise a protest over the outcome of the recently concluded All Progressives Congress primaries in Lagos State, alleging irregularities in the exercise.

Tinubu-Ojo, who spoke during a meeting with market leaders and stakeholders at her office in Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday, accused the party of favouring members of the Justice Forum bloc in the conduct and outcome of the primaries.

The Lagos State chapter of the APC had earlier released the names of candidates who emerged during the House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The list, signed by the state APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, showed that 24 candidates secured tickets for the House of Representatives, while 40 candidates emerged for the Lagos State House of Assembly seats.

Tinubu-Ojo specifically faulted the results announced for Mushin Federal Constituency II, Agege Constituency II and Ojokoro Constituency, insisting that the declared outcomes did not reflect the will of party members.

She called on the leadership of the APC at both state and national levels to investigate the disputed primaries before the final ratification of the results.

According to her, failure to address the grievances could worsen internal divisions within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We are ready to protest because of Seye Oladejo of Mushin Federal Constituency 02, Mutiu Olaide Oladeebo of Agege 2 constituency and Olotu Ojo of Ojokoro constituency because we know they won this election. Their mandate should not be given to somebody else,” she said.

Tinubu-Ojo also expressed concerns over what she described as growing factional politics within the APC, particularly between members of the Justice Forum and the Mandate Group.

She alleged that some politicians were aligning with the Justice Forum because of the perceived governorship ambition of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat.

“We have to cry out now. Let APC cancel Justice and Mandate Forums. We are one family. We are for APC,” she stated.

She further warned that unresolved internal disputes could weaken party unity and discourage loyal members who had worked for the growth of the APC in the state.

Tinubu-Ojo also reaffirmed the support of market women across Lagos for Hamzat’s alleged governorship ambition and other APC candidates, while calling for greater political inclusion for traders in the state.
