A female passenger has lost her life following a road accident involving a Benue Links bus along the Ogiladzi–Abakwa Road in Ofyanghan, Adi-Etulo, located in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
The bus, which was reportedly heading to Jato-Aka, plunged into a stream on Friday evening, leaving one woman dead and several other passengers injured or rescued from the wreckage.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred between 6pm and 7pm, throwing the area into confusion as residents and passersby rushed to assist victims trapped in the vehicle.
Although the exact cause of the crash had yet to be established as of press time, preliminary reports indicated that the vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the nearby stream.
Sources within the community disclosed that several passengers were successfully rescued and taken to safety, while efforts were made to account for all occupants of the bus.
Residents have urged families with relatives travelling along the route to contact relevant authorities for information regarding the accident.
Attempts to obtain official confirmation from the Benue State Police Command and the management of Benue Links Transport Company were unsuccessful as calls and enquiries were not responded to at the time of filing this report.
The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety and recurring accidents on major routes across the state.
