An 18-year-old miner, Felix Obed, has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by a Jos Magistrates’ Court for stealing a fabricated iron door valued at N55,000.
Obed was convicted on charges bordering on conspiracy, trespass, and theft after pleading guilty to the offences.
Delivering judgment on Wednesday, the presiding magistrate, Hannatu Ashom, sentenced the defendant to 18 months in prison with an option of a N130,000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the matter was reported at the ‘A’ Division Police Station on April 28 by the complainant, Adekera Kuma.
According to the prosecutor, the convict acted in concert with an accomplice who remains at large to unlawfully gain access to the complainant’s premises and cart away a fabricated iron door.
Gokwat informed the court that the stolen property was valued at N55,000 and noted that the offences contravened Sections 316 to 346 of the Penal Code Law.
Following the defendant’s guilty plea, the court convicted and sentenced him accordingly.
