Bandit leader allegedly threatens to target top officials, claims security leaks

Security agencies have been urged to intensify efforts against armed groups after a notorious bandit leader, identified as Kachalla Maha, allegedly threatened to abduct senior government officials, including state governors.

The alleged threat was contained in an audio recording that surfaced on social media over the weekend and was shared by a verified user on X.

In the recording, Maha reportedly accused the authorities of refusing to release some of his arrested associates and confiscated cattle, claiming the situation had fuelled renewed attacks in affected communities.

He also alleged that previous attempts to secure the release of his followers were unsuccessful, insisting that he would continue his violent campaign despite ongoing security operations.

The bandit leader further claimed to have access to confidential information about planned security operations, alleging that he receives advance warnings before raids are carried out.

The claims have not been independently verified.

Maha also alleged that his network had infiltrated security structures, a claim for which he provided no evidence.

The audio message has generated concern over the security situation in parts of the country, where bandit attacks, kidnappings and other violent crimes have persisted despite military offensives.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official response to the audio recording or the allegations contained in it.
