The police command in Benue State has confirmed the abduction of the acting Rector, Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Dr Emmanuel Barki. The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, while confirming the incident, said the rector was kidnapped with others on their way to Ugbokolo, after an official trip to Makurdi. Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has shut down The Saints Academy School, Jos, whose block of classrooms collapsed on Friday, killing scores and leaving many others injured. A visibly angry Mr Mutfwang cited crass negligence by its owners as reason for the shut down order. 22 persons were confirmed dead with about 145 injured when the one-storey building collapsed on the students who were writing their examinations. The police command in Anambra State has arrested 200 suspected criminals and made some recoveries in the last two months. The disclosure was made by the state Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam. A two-storey building serving as a clinic and residential apartment has collapsed in Kubwa, Abuja. The building, located at Plot C31, Sultan Dasuki Road, Kubwa, initially served as a guest house before it was converted to a residential apartment. The building collapsed at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Two-thirds of Nigerian doctors, nurses and midwives demand bribes from patients before treatment, a recent report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed. The report titled “NBS Corruption in Nigeria: Patterns and Trend” for 2023, published on Thursday, said 42 per cent of the health workers received bribes to speed up procedures, and 15 per cent also took bribes to make the finalisation of the procedures possible.
