On Wednesday, the Jos Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 22-year-old tailor, Arron Garba, to 18 months’ imprisonment for stealing aluminium windows from a church. The magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced Garba after he pleaded guilty to theft. The magistrate, however, gave the convict an option to pay N50,000 or to spend a year in prison. He ordered the convict to pay compensation of N1000,000 or to spend six months in prison in default. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the police apprehended vandals in a blue pick-up van loaded with tower cables. TCN’s spokesman, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday. Ms Mbah said the items were allegedly stolen from transmission towers along the Damboa/Maiduguri 132KV line on August 7.
