A Grade 1 Area Court at Lugbe, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a labourer, Tile Dominic, to eight weeks in prison for stealing wire. The Judge, Aliyu Kagarko, sentenced Dominic, 26, who pleaded guilty to stealing, as charged. Mr Kagarko, however, gave Dominic an option of N20, 000 fine. The prosecutor, E. A. Nnamani, earlier told the court that the convict, a resident of New Nyanya in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, stole one roll of 1.5mm wire belonging to a man identified simply as Johnson. The police on Thursday arraigned a 25-year-old man, Adejuwon Salami, in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting police officers. The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of assault. The police prosecutor, Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 2, at about 11:30 a.m. at Aba Iyamedi Area, Ilawe Road in Ado-Ekiti. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan, at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court to defend the trading platform against tax evasion charges. The federal government on Thursday alleged that Binance and its executives deliberately evaded tax payment since the trading platform was not formally registered with the country’s  tax body, Federal Inland Revenue Service.
