A 23-year-old garden egg seller, Sanusi Umar , has been arrested by the police in Bauchi State for allegedly sodomising a mentally disabled 10-year-old boy. The administration of President Bola Tinubu is to increase energy rates by 300 per cent to reduce government spending since it can no longer afford the huge amount it pays to subsidise electricity yearly. According to a report by Bloomberg on Tuesday, electricity companies in Nigeria will soon have the government’s say-so to hike tariffs from N68 per kilowatt-hour to N200 per kilowatt-hour for urban consumers in April. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Tuesday in Abuja called on the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to retract its Easter message and offer a public apology. CAN’s national director of National Issues and Social Welfare, Abimbola Ayuba, in a statement, said FIRS’ Easter message threatened Nigeria’s unity and undermined respect among diverse religious groups. The naira gained at the official market, trading at N1, 278.58 to a dollar on Tuesday. Data from the official trading platform of the FMDQ revealed that the naira gained N30.81 or 2.35 per cent, compared to the previous trading date on Thursday, March, 28, 2024 just before the Easter holiday at the rate of N1,309.39 against the dollar. However, the total turnover reduced to $111.18 million on Tuesday, down from $857.78 million recorded on Thursday, March 28, 2024. A collision involving a commercial Toyota Hiace Bus, fully loaded with pepper and other perishable items, and two other Volkswagen commercial buses left a male pedestrian dead in Lagos on Tuesday.
