It was a chaotic scene on Friday as a team of Nigeria Police Force and Nasarawa State Vigilante supervised a tractor clearing wares displayed by the roadside by hawkers on Friday.

Hawkers scampered for safety as a tractor crushed their makeshift stalls and wares.

Over 30 police officers and vigilantes were on the ground.

A police officer threatened a Peoples Gazette reporter who was recording the demolition.

A resident, Jemimah Ambufi, who came to the market to buy some items, condemned the demolition.

“It is unfair to destroy people’s good like this in this hardship,” Ms Ambufi said. “People are struggling to survive now, and they are destroying their means of livelihood.”

Traders displaying their wares beside the road at Mararaba Market often obstructed the free flow of traffic.
