Aiyedatiwa bags SSANU’S award, pledges continued commitment to workers’ welfare

The Ondo State governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been conferred with the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University, SSANU, Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA’s 2024 Most Worker-Friendly Governor Award.

The award was conferred on the governor at the 2024 Labour Colloquium of the FUTA branch of SSANU held at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium of the university.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Adenike Oladiji lauded the relationship of Aiyedatiwa with labour in the state, describing it as heart warming and worthy of emulation by other state governors.

Reacting, the governor, who was represented by the state Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philip, appreciated the organizers for the honour, adding that the gesture would only spur him to do more.

According to him, the welfare of the workers would continue to receive priority attention within the resources at the disposal his government, noting the important roles of labour to the success of any administration.

While highlighting some of his commitments to the state workforce, Aiyedatiwa said not only that his administration was not owing workers in the state any salary and pension arrears, but it has been paying thirty five thousand naira monthly wage award to workers approved by the federal government for its workers and additional ten thousand naira to the pensioners to assuage the effects of the current economic situation among other welfare packages.

He added that his government would continue to look at how best to make life bearable for the workers and the generality of the residents of the state in the face of the prevailing economic hardship been experienced as a result of the recent removal of the fuel subsidy while expressing optimism that all the policies of the federal government would soon begin to yield desired result.
