An Enugu Magistrate Court has reportedly ordered a woman to pay N150,000 in damages for collecting N3,000 as transport fare from a man but failing to show up and subsequently switching off her phone.
The news was shared by Twitter user Nupe Lawyer, who detailed the incident. He wrote:
“A court in Enugu has reportedly set a precedent by awarding damages of N150,000 against a lady. She received N3,000 as transport fare from a man with the promise to visit him, but after collecting the money, she switched off her phone and refused to visit.
Infuriated by her actions, the man sued her for deceit. The magistrate ruled that the woman’s actions were deceitful and awarded N150,000 in damages against her to serve as a deterrent to others engaging in similar behavior.”
The court’s decision has sparked conversations on social media, with many applauding the ruling as a warning against dishonest practices in interpersonal relationships.
