Tragedy struck Lighitlubang village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, as suspected terrorists launched a deadly attack that claimed the lives of five people, including a family of three.

The victims, a man, his wife, and their child, were reportedly murdered in their sleep late Friday night, January 31, 2025.

In addition to the family, another couple was also killed during the brutal assault.

A local resident, Moses Bankat, confirmed the incident, on Saturday to reporters, stating, “The attack happened around midnight.

“Armed men suspected to be Fulani terrorists invaded Lighitlubang village in Bungha District and slaughtered five people—a man, his wife, and their child, as well as another husband and wife.”

The attack has left the community in deep shock, with residents gripped by fear and uncertainty over the growing insecurity in the region.

This incident adds to a troubling series of violent attacks that have plagued Plateau State in recent times.

Reacting to the attack, the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, said security operatives have been deployed to the area to restore calm and maintain order.

“Our officers have been sent to the affected community, and an investigation is currently underway,” Alfred said.

“We are awaiting more details from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), who is presently in the field gathering information.”

Authorities have assured the public of ongoing efforts to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks in the region.
