On Monday, a 40-year-old man, Ahmed Ogunyemi, appeared before an Ota Magistrates Court in Ogun for stealing a Bajaj motorcycle valued at N530,000.

Mr Ogunyemi is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 4, 2024, at Papa Aro Area, Oju-Ore in Ota.

Mr Adaraloye alleged that the defendant stole a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number WDE 436 WL, valued at N530,000, belonging to one Paul Adigun.

He said that the defendant’s cell phone was tracked after the case was reported at the police station, which led to his arrest at Abeokuta in Ogun.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.

The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ms Fadairo directed that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.

She adjourned the case till March 3 for further hearing.
