Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has called on Nigerians to take proactive measures to prevent fire outbreaks across the country.
Speaking at the church’s February thanksgiving service held at the Throne of Grace Parish in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Pastor Adeboye emphasized the importance of vigilance and prayer in light of potential disasters, including fires, storms, and floods.
“I have something urgent to share,” Pastor Adeboye said. “At the start of this year, one of the prophecies was to pray against fire outbreaks, storms, and floods. Though we’ve only completed one month, the rise in fire incidents around the world is alarming. Nigeria is part of the world, and we must be prayerful.”
He specifically urged farmers, who are preparing their lands for cultivation, to avoid bush burning, warning that negligence could lead to catastrophic results.
“Never underestimate any form of open flame near you,” he cautioned. “Farmers, please refrain from burning bushes while preparing your farms. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. May God hear our prayers and grant us His mercy.”
In his sermon titled The Covenant-Keeping God, Pastor Adeboye reminded the congregation that following God’s covenant brings His blessings and protection.
“Obedience to God’s covenant makes you His special treasure,” Adeboye said, referencing biblical figures who received divine favor for their obedience.
He also spoke about the late founder of RCCG as a prime example of God’s faithfulness to His covenant.
“God called the founder of this church, a man with no formal education. God promised him that if he followed certain instructions, He would establish a church through him that would spread worldwide. The founder obeyed, and today RCCG is a global church,” Pastor Adeboye shared.
Pastor Adeboye rejected claims that the church’s success was due solely to his academic background.
“Some attribute the church’s growth to me, as an academician. But many RCCG parishes exist in countries I’ve never set foot in, including places where church buildings are forbidden. In one Muslim country, a prominent figure invited our missionaries to start a church in his yard, despite his wife’s objections. This is not about me—it’s the result of God’s covenant,” he explained.
He encouraged the congregation to cherish their relationship with God and remain committed to His covenant, assuring them that God remains true to His promises for those who obey.
“Some people pray and fast more than us, yet God has shown us exceptional love. If you keep God’s covenant, He will make you His special treasure,” Pastor Adeboye concluded.
