A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Saturday when three young siblings—two girls, aged seven and nine, and their five-year-old brother—were found murdered by unknown assailants.
Reports indicate that the attackers broke into their home while the children were having a meal, killed them, and placed their bodies inside a deep freezer in one of the rooms.
At the time of the attack, their mother, Chikazor Ejezie, a nurse and lecturer, was away taking an exam, and their father, who works in Edo State, was also not home.
“When their mother returned, she noticed the house was unusually open, as the children always locked the door when they went out,” said an eyewitness. “After searching the house, their bodies were eventually discovered in the freezer, suggesting they were killed and then dumped inside.”
On Monday, the father, Ejezie Udochukwu, who was in Edo at the time, shared his shock and sorrow over the tragic news. “When my wife arrived home, she couldn’t find the children. She searched everywhere, even at the church where they served as altar boys and girls, but they weren’t there,” he explained. “In desperation, they opened the freezer, and that’s when the bodies were found. The children had been eating when the attackers came, as there were still plates of food left behind, seemingly in haste.”
The children’s bodies have been transferred to the morgue, and a formal report has been filed with the Central Police Station in Nnewi. Authorities are currently investigating the case. “I am devastated,” said Udochukwu. “Three of my children were taken from me at once by unknown killers.”
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, stating that the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has instructed a thorough investigation. “The bodies have been recovered, and the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further examination. More information will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Ikenga said.
Residents of Nnewichi have expressed their outrage and are calling for justice, urging authorities to ensure a detailed and swift investigation into the horrific deaths of the children.
