The Ogun State government has placed Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo in Ifo Local Government Area, on a six-month suspension due to “uncivil conduct.”
Ganiu Hamzat, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, announced the suspension in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday.
He stated that the behavior of Oba Ogunjobi did not align with the esteemed position of a traditional ruler.
The commissioner explained that the suspension was necessary to uphold the dignity of traditional institutions and protect their sanctity.
He noted that the decision followed an investigation, during which both the traditional ruler and the individual involved in the incident were called in for questioning.
Hamzat referred to a viral video on social media showing Oba Ogunjobi’s inappropriate behavior, which led to the investigation.
“Following the probe, Oba Ogunjobi has been suspended and stripped of the symbols of his office until his involvement in the matter is fully determined,” Hamzat added.
The suspension was jointly decided by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in collaboration with the Egba Traditional Council.
This action aligns with Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021.
Hamzat emphasized that the state government would not tolerate any actions that undermine the dignity of its citizens, regardless of an individual’s position.
