Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, the suspended traditional ruler of Orile Ifo, has been remanded at the Ilaro Correctional Centre in Ogun State after he was unable to fulfill the conditions of his bail.
Ogunjobi was brought before the Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday in connection with a viral video in which he was seen assaulting 73-year-old Abraham Areola.
The charges against the monarch include conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause a disturbance.
Although he was granted bail with two sureties, each required to provide N5 million, he remains in custody due to his failure to meet these conditions.
The court has scheduled a hearing for March 6.
In the meantime, civil society groups have applauded the government’s decision to suspend Ogunjobi and are calling for a thorough prosecution of the case.
