A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) airstrike has successfully neutralized several bandits following an attack on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in Zaka village, Katsina State.
The assault, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in the deaths of two mobile police officers and four community vigilantes.
In response, NAF swiftly deployed attack aircraft to counter the terrorists and prevent further destruction.
However, some residents have alleged that civilian casualties were also recorded during the air offensive.
Providing details on the operation, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, stated:
“On February 15, 2025, the Air Component of Operation Fasan Yamma (AC OFY) executed a precise airstrike at Yauni Hill, Zakka Ward in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State. The mission successfully neutralized multiple bandits and helped repel the attack on PMF and Katsina State Community Watch Corps personnel.”
He further explained that the airstrike was based on intelligence reports indicating an imminent terrorist attack on a PMF base, where the assailants had already killed security operatives and vigilantes.
“Upon arrival, NAF air assets identified and engaged the targets. However, allegations of civilian casualties arising from the operation are deeply concerning. The NAF remains committed to transparency and professionalism in its operations.”
To address these concerns, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has ordered a thorough investigation to verify the claims and ensure appropriate action is taken based on the findings.
The NAF has urged the public to remain calm as investigations proceed, reaffirming its dedication to accountability and the protection of innocent lives.
