The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the local government elections conducted in Osun State on Saturday, describing the process as unconstitutional and unlawful.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for going ahead with the polls despite a standing court ruling.

Morka referenced the Court of Appeal’s February 10 verdict, which reinstated local government officials earlier removed by an executive order from Governor Adeleke.

He explained that the ruling nullified a previous Federal High Court judgment, affirming that the officials should remain in office until their term expires in October 2025.

He also condemned the governor’s decision to appoint caretaker committees, stating that it contravened Section 7(1) of the Nigerian Constitution.

The APC spokesperson accused Adeleke of disregarding judicial authority and wasting public resources on what he called a “sham election” that could destabilize the state.

Morka called on the governor to respect the rule of law and urged local government workers to continue their duties under the reinstated officials.

He further appealed to security agencies to ensure peace and prevent any escalation of tension.

Also, he urged the federal government to ensure that only legally recognized local government officials receive funding, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to democratic principles and judicial decisions in Osun State.
