The Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja has dissolved the marriage between Hauwa Abdulhadi and Ismail Hassan due to neglect and abandonment.
Delivering the judgment, Judge Aliyu Kagarko ruled that the marriage had broken down beyond repair, noting that both parties had lost interest in continuing the union.
As part of the decision, the court instructed Ms. Abdulhadi to observe the Islamic “Iddah” period of three months before entering another marriage.
In her petition, Ms. Abdulhadi explained that she married Mr. Hassan under Islamic law in 2024 but lived with him for only nine weeks before he abandoned her at her parents’ house.
She accused him of failing to provide for her needs, leaving her without food, financial support, or any means of survival.
She told the court, “My husband no longer loves me. I want the court to dissolve this marriage.”
Mr. Hassan did not dispute the claims or oppose the request for divorce.
