Kogi Central warns against political persecution of Senator Natasha

Residents of Kogi Central Senatorial District have reaffirmed their support for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan amid her ongoing disagreement with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In a statement released on Friday, February 28, 2025, the Ebira People’s Association (EPA), the socio-cultural body representing the district, expressed confidence in Natasha’s leadership and cautioned against any form of political intimidation.

“Kogi Central stands firmly behind our distinguished Senator, Barrister Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. We recognize her commitment to representing our district and insist that she must not be unfairly targeted,” the statement, signed by EPA President Dr. Godwin Oyibo, read.

The group also discouraged attempts to give the issue an ethnic dimension, urging all parties to allow the Senate to address its internal matters without bias.

“We have closely followed recent events, including the controversial ‘nightclub’ remark, her sudden removal as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content, and the unexpected displacement from her seat. These developments are concerning,” the statement added.

The EPA warned against a rising culture of political harassment, calling on the Senate leadership to uphold fairness and democratic values.

“We are watching closely—taking note of statements and actions from various quarters. At the right time, we will respond accordingly,” the association stated.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan recently accused Senate President Akpabio of making inappropriate advances toward her. This is the second time Akpabio has faced such allegations, following similar claims by former NDDC official Joy Nunieh.
