Rivers Crisis: I’ve nothing to fear – Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has stated that he is unshaken by the ongoing political turmoil in the state, emphasizing that he has nothing to fear regarding its outcome.

His remarks follow a 48-hour deadline issued by the Martin Amaewhule-led State House of Assembly, directing him to present the 2025 budget after last weekend’s Supreme Court ruling.

Speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed Government House residential quarters in Port Harcourt, Fubara maintained that the greatest consequence he could face was leaving office, which he insisted did not trouble him.

He pointed out that each time his administration sought to stabilize governance, new challenges emerged to derail progress.

Acknowledging the people of Rivers for their steadfast support amid the crisis, he declared, “Despite the deception we have experienced in this state, the people have now chosen to take control of their own destiny.

“I do not believe in violence, but when the time comes to take a stand, I will be at the forefront.

“I have no reason to be afraid. The worst that can happen is for me to leave this position, but does that mean my existence ends? No. What matters is that I uphold the truth and do what is right when given the opportunity.”

Fubara reassured the people of Rivers that he would lead with integrity, respect, and honor, knowing that his actions would be judged in the future.

“I want to be able to stand by my decisions with confidence, even decades from now. I deeply appreciate your support and promise that I will not let you down,” he said.

Before addressing the crowd, the governor began his speech by quoting Philippians 3:18-19, underscoring the importance of faith and perseverance in difficult times.

He read, “For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.”

Despite the political challenges, he remained resolute, stating, “Victory is assured.”
