Jandor: PDP has lost faith in itself

The 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdul-Azeez Adediran, also known as Jandor, has stated that the party has given up on itself due to ongoing internal crises.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Tuesday, Jandor, who resigned from the PDP on Monday, pointed to the leadership crisis at the party’s national headquarters as a key reason for his departure. He criticized the party’s instability, particularly under the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, who has faced backlash from party members following the exit of Iyorchia Ayu.

The crisis has deepened over a dispute regarding the National Secretary position, with both Senator Samuel Anyanwu and former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye laying claim to the role. Internal conflicts within the Board of Trustees, National Working Committee, and National Executive Committee have further fractured the party, especially in the South-South, where a Zonal Congress was held on February 22 without the governors’ approval.

Jandor described the situation as damaging to the PDP’s public image, saying, “Who proudly identifies as a PDP member these days? With the current state of affairs, even the party itself has lost confidence.”

He argued that persistent internal struggles have allowed those who previously worked against the PDP to take control, making meaningful change unlikely.

“With congresses coming up in 2025 and primaries in 2026, the same people will remain in charge. How can you expect different results?” he asked.

Regarding his next political step, Jandor stated that he has yet to decide but will consider his options carefully.

“Nigeria has 18 political parties, which means there are 17 other choices. We will consult and decide. There are also emerging coalitions exploring new possibilities,” he said.

Regardless of his future political affiliation, he emphasized his commitment to respecting the leadership and structure of any party he joins.

“This is the path we have chosen, and we are staying on course. Only God knows what the future holds,” he concluded.
