A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mapo, Ibadan, has ordered the remand of Raphael Francis, a 40-year-old security guard, in a correctional facility over allegations of stealing two inverter batteries worth N2.4 million.
Francis pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft. However, Magistrate O.O. Latunji remanded him at the Agodi Correctional Facility after he failed to meet the bail conditions set at N500,000 with two reliable sureties. The case was adjourned until April 9 for further hearing.
Prosecutor Oluseye Akinola informed the court that the defendant allegedly committed the crime on March 1 in the Yemetu area of Ibadan. He was reportedly caught with two inverter batteries belonging to 9 Mobile Telecommunication Nigeria.
Akinola further stated that Francis had previously worked for the company, during which multiple items went missing under his watch, and he was unable to account for them.
The prosecution noted that the alleged offence violates Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Volume II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
