The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, also known as “Killaboi,” from Doha, Qatar, over the killing of 21-year-old Augusta Onuwabhagbe, a student of Lead City University, Ibadan.
The murder occurred on July 13, 2023, at the suspect’s residence in Ajah, Lagos State.
According to Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, Nnayereugo, who had been on the run since the incident, was returned to Nigeria on Saturday, April 19, 2025. His extradition followed a coordinated effort between the Nigeria Police, the Federal Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja, and Qatari judicial authorities.
The investigation began after Onuwabhagbe’s family filed a petition through their legal representatives on September 29, 2024. Police say the suspect fled the country after the murder and later released a video online that appeared to be a confession, which authorities believe was an attempt to mislead investigators.
Nnayereugo, a 26-year-old from Abia State, was declared wanted by the Lagos State Police on October 13, 2023. INTERPOL issued a Red Notice for his arrest.
He was first apprehended in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on October 20, 2023, using the false identity “Kanu Princeton Samuel.”
However, he escaped custody during a prison break on November 26, 2023.
Authorities said the suspect evaded capture across several regions, including West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East, using multiple forged identities.
He eventually settled in Doha on January 24, 2025, under the alias “Toure Abdoulaye” with a fake Guinean passport and obtained illegal employment.
His true identity was confirmed through advanced biometric checks by INTERPOL in collaboration with Qatari authorities.
He was arrested in February 2025, and an official extradition request from Nigeria was granted by Qatar’s judiciary.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised the international cooperation that led to the arrest, particularly the roles played by INTERPOL Abuja, INTERPOL Doha, the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar, and Justice Minister Lateef Fagbemi.
He assured the public that Nnayereugo will face prosecution in Nigeria as part of ongoing efforts to ensure justice and public safety.
