A 36-year-old security guard, Idris Sheriff, was on Thursday arraigned before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja over the alleged theft of marine boards valued at N756,000.

Sheriff, who resides in Agwan Chairman Ado, Nasarawa State, is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, negligence, and theft.

According to the Prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, the case was reported on January 21 by the complainant, Amaechi Prince, who lives on Nwaja Close, Phase 4, Kuwba, Abuja.

Nwachukwu told the court that the incident occurred on January 20, at Coded African Network Company Associate Estate in Idu, where the defendant was employed as a security guard.

The prosecution alleged that Sheriff conspired with others still at large to steal 27 marine boards belonging to the company.

During police investigation, the defendant claimed he was on duty but asleep when the theft occurred.

The offences, according to the prosecution, contravene Sections 96, 196, and 288 of the Penal Code.

Chief Magistrate Musa Jobbo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with one surety in the same amount.

The surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned until May 26 for hearing.
